About IPS Membership

Membership to IPS is restricted to Indiana-based psychiatrists who hold dual membership with the American Psychiatric Association.  Member benefits include:

Continuing Education: Twice annually, IPS hosts accredited symposia for members and other health care professionals.  These events offer 4-12 hours of APA PRA Category 1 credit.   As a member, fees for participation are discounted.

Networking, Collaboration, and Peer Support Opportunities:  Monthly meetings, limited to IPS members, offer the opportunity to interact with other IPS members to help decrease professional isolation. Meetings also offer insight into new pharmaceutical solutions, new techniques for working with patients, suggestions on how to improve your practice, and other career enhancement opportunities.

Leadership Opportunities: IPS members have numerous opportunities for leadership roles with the society.  The council and committees include more than 25 positions.  We encourage members throughout the state to be involved and consider committee participation at some point in their career. Advocacy for You, Your Patients and the Profession: IPS contracts with The Corydon Group to handle lobbying needs in our state house relevant to mental health issues. Federal representation is handled by an accomplished team of APA staff members. APA staffers make several annual presentations to various Congressional Committees.  This team also supplements IPS efforts by providing legislation monitoring, grass roots advocacy, and advisement on state mental health policy.

Complimentary Subscription to the Monthly Electronic Newsletter, the IPS Update:  The IPS Update is a reliable monthly source of news for members.  Content includes council and membership meeting updates, an events calendar, industry news, and member announcements.

Representation in the Mental Health and Medical Community: IPS members are active participants in many community roles that shape the mental health profession.  Relationships with NAMI, Mental Health America, Indiana State Medical Association, Indiana Medical History Museum, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and the Indianapolis Medical Society are a few of the organizations of which IPS members are involved.
